Handbook Updates
[Nov-09] The following were inadvertently left out of the handbook:
- City Narrative Rubric
- Inventory List (optional)
Attention 7th Graders: FC Prelims and Duke SAT Conflict
[Aug-09] As has become the norm, the FC Preliminary round of presentations - morning of 23 Jan 20109 - is the same time as one of the SAT testing dates for the Duke Talent Identification Program.
Avoid the conflict
- Take the ACT in Dec
- Take the SAT in Dec or Mar
Those with a conflict - Notify the Regional Coordinator by 20 Dec to request a special, late presentation time
- There are a limited number of presentation times between 12:00 and 1:00 pm
- Slots will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis
- Take the test at UT Arlington
- Note: Special Awards judging will take place during the morning. Remaining team members can represent the team for this judging, however, there will be no make-up times or alternate team members allowed.
What's different this year?
[Aug-09] A couple of significant changes this year:
- Teams will use default starter regions for their computer city design.
- The word allowance for the Essay increases to 700-1000 words.
- Audio equipment is not allowed during the presentation.
Future City makes the 2009-10 National Advisory List of Student Contests and Activities
[Jun-09] The Future City Competition
has been approved for inclusion on the National Advisory List of
Student Contests and Activities, produced by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP)
through its National Committee on Student Contests and Activities.
Additional copies of SimCity 4 Deluxe
[Aug-09] Additional copies of SimCity 4 Deluxe - beyond the one copy sent as part of your registration - may be purchased online from the Future City website for $7.50 plus shipping/handling. The program may also be available from local computer or electronics stores. However, the MAC version of SimCity 4 has been created specifically for FC and is only available through us.
At this time, there are no additional SimCity cds are available for loan from the North Texas Regional Competition.
North Texas Team is Finalist at National Competition
[Feb-09] The North Texas regional winner, Heliopolis from McLean Middle School, competed in the National Future City Competition in Washington, DC during National Engineers Week. For only the second time, a North Texas team made it to the finals. Heliopolis finished 5th overall and won awards for Best Model and for Most Innovative Power Generation System sponsored by the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
First place in the national competition went to the team from Ohio, second place to Louisiana and third place to Florida.
