2009 Competition

  • Registered 34 public schools from 21 districts, 4 private schools and 2 home schools;
  • Attracted teams from as far away as Lubbock, New Braunfels and Houston;
  • Involved over 500 students, more than half of whom were female or minority;
  • Evaluated designs of 33 teams from 21 schools that completed the program and presented future cities to the judges;
  • North Texas team placed 5th at the National Competition and won awards for Best Model and for Most Innovative Power Generation System sponsored by the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
  • Had media coverage by the Dallas Morning News, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Denton Record-Chronical, Plano Star Courier, Sunday Gazette Mail and Kingwood Observer (circulation about 1M) and KDFW, WFAA and KDAF
